As I type this message, millions of women are on the brink of losing access to legal abortion care. This is the moment anti-choice extremists have been working toward for decades, and women seeking any kind of reproductive care, in red states and blue, will suffer the consequences.
Faced with this reality, Congress must codify abortion protections nationwide. My colleagues and I already voted in the House to keep Roe the law of the land by passing the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), and the Senate needs to move immediately to do the same.
We did our jobs. We voted to codify protections for providers and patients.
This afternoon, Senators will have the same opportunity to do the right thing when the WHPA comes up for a vote. And when the votes are tallied, the American people will know with absolute clarity which Senators voted to preserve their fundamental rights, and which Senators voted against women’s health, safety, and dignity.
We are building funds now to challenge those who would vote against this critical legislation at a moment where reproductive rights are hanging by a thread.
