Hi Team,
It’s Suzan DelBene – Chair of the New Democrat Coalition.
In the wake of the news that the Supreme Court is poised to overturn Roe v. Wade, I wanted to make one thing clear: We are more committed than ever to protecting the freedom of every woman to make decisions about her body, family, and future.
Abortion is still legal, the right to decide still stands, but this draft opinion shows us that we cannot let up the fight. Abortion is a right. It’s as simple as that.
The vast majority of Americans believe that personal reproductive health care decisions should be made between patients and physicians – not politicians, and certainly not the far-right extremists trying to turn back the clock on a fundamental right we’ve held for decades.
House Democrats led the way on protecting reproductive rights by passing the Women’s Health Protection Act, a bill to combat dangerous state-level restrictions on reproductive health care nationwide.
This week the Senate MUST do the same. It’s an important act of support for the women depending on us to protect their rights, and a forceful mechanism to put our elected leaders on the record.
We won’t stop fighting for equal justice and access to health care for all – including reproductive health care.
Yours,
Suzan DelBene (WA-01)
Chair, NewDems
