I am writing to request your help to put the Green Party back on the ballot in New York.

We need 45,000 good signatures in 42 days by May 31. Thanks to a Ballot Access Exclusion Law rammed through by the Democrats at the request of disgraced former Governor Andrew Cuomo as part of the state budget package in April 2020 while we were in Covid lockdown, New York now has the most difficult ballot access requirements of any state or nation in the world.

We have a good start on signatures. The party and our campaign together have raised $30,000 to support the paid petitioners that we need to supplement our party volunteers. We now need to raise another $30,000 to keep our paid petitioners going the remaining three weeks.

We also ask for your help in gathering signatures. We just won an injunction against New York’s ban on out-of-state petitioners, so you can help if you are out of state as well as in state.

As you will see on the donate and volunteer pages of the www.hawkinsmatter.org website, I have been nominated by the Green Party of New York to run for Governor along with Gloria Mattera for Lieutenant Governor. Gloria is a public hospital health worker who assists children and immigrants. She is a longtime campaigner for universal public health care, peace, labor, and the environment.

We paired up as a ticket to successfully restore the Green Party ballot line in 2010 and we intend to do it again in 2020. If we can petition on to the ballot and then receive at least 2% of the vote, probably at least 150,000 votes, Greens will have a ballot line through the 2024 election. 

We are facing a centrist corporate Democrat and a far-right Republican extremist. This dynamic sets up the opportunity for a big progressive vote for the Green ticket in November. 

Winning back the Green ballot line in New York will be big help for whoever is the Green 2024 presidential ticket, which would be able to focus its resources on ballot access in other states. So we all have a stake in this ballot access drive.
