Stand against government overreach—you can help meet the $150,000 goal this #GivingTuesday

Dear John,
In yesterday’s email, we told you how opponents of religious freedom are getting bolder—even going so far as to target churches.
Government abuse of power toward people of faith is increasing and infiltrating nearly every aspect of life.
Consider the story of Steve and Bridget Tennes.
The Tennes family owns Country Mill Farms in Charlotte, Michigan. They strive to live in a way that reflects Christ’s love and raise their six children according to their beliefs. Their faith also guides the way that they operate their farm—it is central to their life.
So when someone posted on Country Mill Farms’ Facebook page, asking the family farm’s position on same-sex marriage, the Tennes family gave an honest answer. As Catholics, Steve and Bridget believe what the Bible says about marriage: that it is between one man and one woman. They stated their beliefs politely, with respect and love.
They never thought that a city 22 miles away would punish them for simply saying what they believe. But that’s exactly what happened.
John, with government overreach on the rise across America, we are trusting God for at least $150,000 this #GivingTuesday to continue our pro-bono work to stand against attacks on your freedom.
Thankfully, a generous family has given a special $75,000 challenge grant to help meet this need. And now, they want to challenge you to give and help reach that $150,000 goal.
Will you rise to the challenge this #GivingTuesday, and consider a gift to help preserve our most precious freedoms?

Government is supposed to be freedom’s greatest protector—not its greatest threat
For years, the Tennes family participated in the East Lansing Farmer’s Market. They provided excellent service and were such a hit that the city of East Lansing continually asked them to return.
But that abruptly changed in 2016 after Steve and Bridget shared their beliefs about marriage in a Facebook post.
Even though Country Mill Farms happily serves everyone, and even though the Facebook post had nothing to do with the farmer’s market, East Lansing officials decided to punish the Tennes family because they disagreed with the family’s religious beliefs.
First, East Lansing pressured the family to leave the farmer’s market. Then, the city went even further and crafted a new policy aimed directly at keeping Country Mill out of future markets.
The Tennes family was shocked.
Both Steve and Bridget served our country in the armed forces. They’ve always been willing to sacrifice to protect our most cherished freedoms. And they’ve seen what happens when government is allowed to abuse its power unchecked. They know, as you do, that if the First Amendment loses, we all lose.
So Steve and Bridget decided to stand against the government’s attempts to punish them for their faith.
Because of the financial gifts of people like you, John, Country Mill Farms was able to file a complaint against the city. But today, the Tennes family is still awaiting justice in their case.
And with government overreach rising, not just in this case but in many others, we are trusting God for at least $150,000 this #GivingTuesday to stand against this abuse of power.
People like Steve and Bridget rely on your generosity, John. Across America, these brave individuals are standing for religious freedom, but they can’t do it alone. They are waking up to a world that has rejected their right to freely live out their faith, and they need help—they need you.
This #GivingTuesday, will you stand with them?
