Chris Coons
John,

The truth is that a woman's right to choose has been settled law for forty-nine years, and the fact that Roe v. Wade is poised to be overturned is devastating. That's why I will be voting to pass the Women's Health Protection Act to codify Roe v. Wade into law.

Should the decision to overturn Roe become law without federal protections in place, roughly half of all states will move to ban abortion, and 13 will immediately make all or nearly all abortions illegal, leading to gross inequalities in health care access.

As it stands, there are already many barriers that women seeking reproductive healthcare services face, like finding child care, taking time off of work, and navigating the cost of transportation and a place to stay. If we do not act, the number of people affected by these obstacles will rise dramatically. Those facing the most harm from this decision are people from communities of color.

In the Senate, I'm working to ensure that women and families have access to safe and affordable reproductive healthcare with the security of knowing that this life-changing decision will be between them and their doctors.

Protecting access to reproductive rights – including abortion – is urgent and necessary. I promise to continue the fight and vote to codify the protections of Roe v. Wade. If you stand with me in defense of reproductive healthcare and bodily autonomy, sign our petition >>

Thank you,

Chris Coons
