We don’t need to tell you these far-ranging, intelligent animals belong with their loving families, on Africa’s vast, ever-changing savannahs. The zoo is no place for an elephant – many are wild-caught and often kept in restricted space, in small groups or alone. Zoo elephants can suffer health problems, high infant mortality and display unnatural, repetitive behaviours.
