Hi – It’s my first time reaching out! My name is Jeremy Jansen, and I’m the Political Director here at the DLCC.

My colleagues on the email team asked that I write you a note about how important our Path to the Majority plan is. I thought I’d do you one better and give you an exclusive inside look into our electoral strategy for 2022 and beyond. But, before you scroll down to read our memo, can you become one of the first Founding Donors to the Path to the Majority Fund – to ensure our candidates have the strongest foundation heading into November?

As you read this, Republican-led legislatures are attacking the freedom to vote, waging a culture war on LGBTQ+ people, and infringing on safe and legal abortion access. In all my time in politics, I have never seen a greater threat to the health of our democracy than the agenda of state Republicans today.

But here’s the good news. We have identified 10 states where our Democratic candidates stand the best chance at defending critical chambers and taking the GOP head-on. Take a look:

Defending our Majorities
We have to first defend our gains. Midterm cycles are historically difficult for the president’s party, so we must protect our progress this cycle to stand a chance of expanding our majorities in 2023, 2024, and beyond.

Making a Play for Vulnerable GOP Majorities
Republican majorities are the most vulnerable in the Minnesota Senate and Michigan and New Hampshire. These chambers are the best opportunities to gain ground due to fairer maps, the landscapes of the state, or our current margins.

Reversing Republicans’ Structural Advantage
Republicans have played the long game for decades, and it’s high time for us to do the same. We’re investing to gain ground in chambers that could become more competitive later in the cycle.

Strategizing Beyond our Majorities
Majorities aren’t made overnight. We’ll begin investing in strategic levers of power – that includes protecting Democratic governors' veto power by preventing GOP supermajorities, investing in lieutenant governor races and state supreme court seats, winning competitive districts in tough states, and recruiting candidates who reflect the communities they represent.
