Tell Biden to cancel $50,000 in student debt Indivisibles,
Last week’s Roe v. Wade leak marked a seismic shift in the United States, and activists and organizations are taking major action nationwide -- for good reason. But as with all important moments, there’s not just one news story going on, and here at Indivisible Project, we’re still hard at work trying to move forward with all kinds of goals. One of those? Ensuring President Biden lives up to his promise to make a student loan decision in the next few weeks.
There is still a window of opportunity to push President Biden to commit to canceling federal student loan debt of at least $50,000 per borrower. This would eliminate the specter hanging over the heads of 45 million Americans at a time when we all so desperately need access to funds moving ahead. It would give the nation a much needed infusion of money -- and of hope.
President Biden reaffirmed his commitment to cancel some amount of federal student debt at a meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and has said that a final decision will be made in the coming weeks. Now is the time to uplift his commitment while pushing him to go bold ensuring flexibility and financial freedom for more Americans.
Here’s where you come in:
It is a bleak moment. Between a pandemic that has shaped every aspect of our lives for over two years, an unjust war being waged in Ukraine, and the Supreme Court legislating access to personal care, it is hard to find moments of relief. Let’s do the work right now to ensure that millions of Americans experience a drastically positive moment in this storm so that we can remind them, and ourselves, that there is a light on the other side.
In solidarity, Indivisible Team
