Dear John,
Donald Trump's attempt to overturn the 2020 election was stopped only when a few election officials — secretaries of state in particular — rightfully certified the results.
Had those secretaries of state done Trump's bidding, his plan just might have worked.
Now Trump and his allies have launched an unprecedented effort to take over our elections by installing loyalists in these key election oversight positions. In fact, more than two dozen Trump Republicans who claim the 2020 election was stolen are running for secretary of state in key battleground states like Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Nevada.
To protect and preserve our democracy, we must defeat these Trump stooges and prevent them from taking over our elections.
But here's our big challenge: Most voters don't pay attention to these races, and the media tends to ignore them as well. Millions of people who showed up to vote against Trump in 2020 might not even bother voting in these races — unless we sound the alarm.
Inequality Media Civic Action is blasting viral videos and other content to our huge following on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to make sure that everyone, especially young people, who tend to skip voting in midterm elections, knows about these critical races.
Will you make a donation to Inequality Media Civic Action and help get out the truth? Together we must defeat the pro-Trump candidates running for secretary of state and trying to take over our elections.
The pro-Trump candidates for secretary of state are truly dangerous conspiracy theorists who will not hesitate to use their authority to overturn elections if we let them.
Here are a few of the candidates we should worry about most:
Jody Hice, Georgia: Hice is running against Brad Raffensperger, the Georgia secretary of state who Trump famously asked to "find 11,780 votes" to overturn the results of the state. While Raffensperger refused to do Trump's dirty work, Hice was all in, voting against certifying the 2020 election in the Georgia House.
Kristina Karamo, Michigan: Karamo was a volunteer poll watcher in 2020 who claimed to have personally witnessed election fraud. Her claims were all found to be utterly bogus, but that hasn't stopped her from repeating them while pushing Trump's Big Lie.
Mark Finchem, Arizona: Finchem is a far-right member of the Arizona state legislature, a QAnon-supporter, and a member of the Oath Keepers militia. He also personally attended the January 6 insurrection.
Jim Marchant, Nevada: Marchant claimed in a TV interview that "it’s almost statistically impossible that Joe Biden won" in 2020. He said he would not have certified the 2020 election and instead would have thrown out the vote and sent an alternate slate of Trump electors.
If even one of these Trump cronies wins, they could try to overturn a close election, triggering a constitutional crisis.
That's why we're alerting voters about these vitally important elections. But with so much at stake and the midterms less than six months away, we need to go big starting right now, and we rely on donations from everyday people like you to fund all of our work.
Will you make a donation to Inequality Media Civic Action and help save our democracy, including by defeating the Big Lie Trump cronies running to take over our elections?
Thank you for helping defend our democracy,
Robert Reich
