In a radio interview the day after the Supreme Court draft opinion leaked last week, Lauren Boebert felt entitled to say: “I know the preciousness of the steps of life and of children. And It is so disgusting to me that the left wants full-term abortion. They want post-term abortion, where a mother can later decide, after delivery, that she doesn’t want to go through with this. This is what’s happening right now. And it’s so heartbreaking.”
We know we email a lot about Lauren Boebert and the insane things that come out of her mouth. But here’s why it’s so important to pay attention to this, and not simply write it off as the ravings of a fringe lunatic.
First of all, Boebert is no longer fringe; she is very much mainstream for Trump's GOP. More importantly, the Boeberts of today are masters of manipulation through propaganda, persuading by repeating extreme and ridiculous falsehoods over and over again—the Big Lie, for whatever untruth is most convenient for them. They create permission structures for their supporters to hate anyone who doesn’t agree with them, to demonize their political opposition, and to render everyone else as less than human. This is how they keep Americans divided—and doing so, keep a hold on power even in the minority.
