Dear John,
Over the past week, millions of Americans have taken to the streets to defend the rights of women, girls, non-binary, and trans folks. Meanwhile, the powerful leader among House Democrats, Nancy Pelosi, has continued raising money for anti-choice reproductive authoritarian Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX).
Had enough? Join us today to take action at Pelosi’s house in Pacific Heights!
The layers of hypocrisy that Pelosi embodies can sometimes grow difficult to overstate. Having failed to codify Roe when Democrats held the Senate, she more recently failed to block Justice Barrett’s confirmation hearings when she had a chance, and absurdly continues to raise money for anti-choice Democrats!
Just yesterday, Pelosi was quoted by The Hill as saying, “I want the Republican Party to take back the party to where you were when you cared about a woman’s right to choose, you cared about the environment. Here I am, Nancy Pelosi, saying this country needs a strong Republican Party.”
Would you rather see Democrats championing for a strong Democratic Party than a strong Republican one? It’s not rocket science, but we need your help to overcome Pelosi’s corruption and invite you to join us at her house today!
We appreciate the demand by grassroots organizers calling for Pelosi to investigate Republican-appointed Justices. We extend that request to the Senate Judiciary Committee, and also expand on their demands in two ways.
First, I proposed ten years ago that Congress end judicial life tenure, in order to force long overdue turnover on the bench and check & balance a judiciary run amok. That proposal has grown only more urgent in the time since then.
Second, we’ve more recently proposed that blue states immediately begin passing bills to enact boycotts of red states should Roe fall, in order to force the Justices to reconsider their opinions before the leaked draft opinion is formalized. We know that the Court has grown politicized in spite of its design, and also that Washington cares more about capital than our communities. Even if the Justices are not formally politically accountable, a threat to commerce offers the chance to sway them before it grows too late.
While media sources have widely dropped the ball by failing to cover our race or the impending jungle primary election, we anticipate media coverage of today’s event and encourage you to attend if you’re available.
See you at the corner of Normandie Terrace & Broadway at 5pm!
Your voice,
Shahid
PS – Can’t join us in person today? Sign up to volunteer with us, or donate to extend our efforts instead! We've come closer to removing Pelosi from office than anyone ever has, and need your help to finish the job. With the jungle primary looming in under a month, it's all hands on deck! This is no time to observe politics from the sidelines.
