I’m sure that by now you’ve heard the devastating news. The conservative majority Supreme Court has drafted a majority opinion to strike down Roe v. Wade, the landmark decision that enshrined the right to reproductive freedom at the national level. 

Let me be clear: this is a direct attack on all of our rights, but especially on impoverished women, women of color, LGBTQ+ women, and survivors of sexual violence. And we CANNOT be complacent.

When this opinion is published, the right to an abortion will be left up to individual states to mandate or revoke… and 26 states have, or are poised to have, trigger laws, where abortion will be outlawed the moment this happens.

What we have learned from the actions taken at the state level in Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, and more is that these unconscionable attacks on women’s autonomy can happen anywhere. Maryland must be a leader in reproductive rights and take the extra step to codify the critical human right to an abortion through a state constitutional amendment.

Friend, if there was ever a time to take action against this barbaric forced birth movement, it’s right now. If you believe women deserve the essential right to bodily autonomy, economic freedom, and the most basic human dignities, will you sign our petition calling on the state legislature to pass a constitutional amendment safeguarding abortion access?

Maryland needs to be a leader and a beacon of hope, as well as an attainable destination for women across the country in need of abortion access once they lose rights in their own state through these trigger laws. Please, will you sign our petition today?
