I want to take a moment to share some old photos, and a bit more about me.

Maura Healey for Governor

I wanted to share a little bit more about me and how I grew up, because I think it helps explain who I am and what kind of Governor I will be. I hope you’ll take the time to read this and chip in to support our campaign.

I’m the oldest of five kids. My mom raised us on her own until my stepdad joined our family. Between taking care of us and working as a school nurse, she had her hands full. But she showed us that we could make it if we worked together and took care of each other. We were a team.

Maura and her four siblings

Me and my siblings in our matching Celtics shirts – that’s me in the top left corner!

My mom also taught us about sacrifice. When I was young, she sold her wedding ring and used the money to pave half a basketball court behind our farmhouse. I fell in love with basketball, and I’ve been like a magnet to any court ever since.

Maura playing college basketball

Here I am playing in college.

After college, I played basketball professionally in Europe for a couple of years. Then I returned to Boston to go to law school, because I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. That took me to the Civil Rights Division at the Attorney General’s Office, where I led the first successful state challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act.

I saw the power that government has when it comes to helping people and protecting their rights. And that’s why, in 2014, I ran to be the People’s Lawyer. I was a first-time, underdog candidate but with your support, we won – and have been standing up for the people of Massachusetts ever since.

Team Healey supporters

Winning our race for AG was a team effort, just like our campaign for Governor.

I’m sharing these stories with you because they tell you who I am – not just as a person, but as a leader. My experiences have motivated me to run for Governor and build a campaign based on teamwork, serving others, and standing up for what’s right.

But to make it across the finish line and build a Massachusetts that works for everyone, I need your help.

Running for Governor is our greatest challenge yet. We have to run a bigger campaign than we’ve ever run before, to reach voters all across the state and share with them who I am. Our team’s working towards an $8,000 goal today to pull this off. Will you chip in $5, or more, to get us there?

Thanks so much,

Maura
