If you caught my speech last Tuesday, you heard me talk about my two biggest heroes: My father and President Ronald Reagan.
My father was a congressman back in 1974 and he was the only Republican in Congress to vote for the impeachment of President Nixon. My father was never afraid to stand alone while doing what he thought was right. No toxic politics. No games.
President Reagan understood the importance of bucking partisan politics and working together for the greater good. He built a big tent party and understood the importance of building our country by using addition and multiplication, not subtraction and division.
Both men were willing to do what was right, not just what the extremes of the party demanded of them.
