// A LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT & CEO

Give Mom What She Really Wants This Year: Equal Pay

Dear Colleagues,

For those of you who celebrated Mother’s Day this weekend, I hope you had a wonderful day. Moms tend to get flowers, candy, and mimosas, but a gift that would be much more meaningful and longer-lasting? Equal pay. Full-time working moms are paid, on average, 71 cents for every dollar dads make, according to Census data analyzed by the National Women’s Law Center [[link removed]]. When you drill down by race and ethnicity, it only gets worse: Latina mothers are paid 46 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic fathers, while Black mothers are paid just 52 cents.

The sad truth is that while our society claims to cherish motherhood, the data says otherwise. Women who become parents see their pay drop by 30% [[link removed]], while men see a 20% bonus for becoming parents.

If we really want change, here’s what it’s going to take from businesses, states, and the federal government:

✓ [[link removed]] national paid family leave for all

✓ [[link removed]] flexible/remote work options

✓ [[link removed]] accessible, affordable child care

To read more about how we can do right by moms, read my piece in Marie Claire [[link removed]].

In solidarity,

Elizabeth
