Dear John,

Every day, trucks and buses carry the goods, packages and people that keep our economy running. They’re a key link in our supply chain, but they’re also some of the dirtiest vehicles on the road.

These heavy-duty vehicles run on diesel-powered engines are responsible for 25% of all climate pollution in the transportation sector. Pollution which causes serious harm to our climate and health, from asthma and other breathing problems to premature death.

It’s a big problem, but we have the solution.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is working on a new rule that will strengthen pollution standards for medium and heavy-duty trucks. Now it’s our job to make sure they’re strong enough to protect our communities from toxic air pollution. Submit a public comment today and urge EPA to adopt strongest possible pollution standards for heavy duty vehicles! [link removed]

Despite making up only 10% of vehicles on the road, medium and heavy-duty trucks are responsible for more than 420 million tons of climate pollution. This extraordinary source of pollution puts all Americans at risk, with the health burden disproportionately impacting people of color and lower income families.

These communities often live closest to roads, highways, ports, distribution centers and freight depots making them particularly vulnerable to tailpipe pollution from heavy duty vehicles. By strengthening air pollution standards, the U.S. can shift our fleet of diesel-powered trucks to new zero-emission engines, and put us on track to:

- Prevent more than 57,000 premature deaths by 2050;

- Eliminate more than 4.7 billion metric tons of climate pollution by 2050;

- Slash smog-forming NOx emissions by over 10 million tons and health-harming particulate pollution by nearly 200,000 tons by 2050; and

- Save $485 billion in health and environmental benefits alone as a result of pollution reductions.

This is our opportunity to protect the health of our climate and our communities. Tell EPA to strengthen their proposed standards for heavy duty vehicles by submitting a public comment now! [link removed]
