The Supreme Court’s leaked draft opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade is an outrageous attack on fundamental rights and reproductive health that will have real impacts the moment the decision comes out.

In 13 states, “trigger laws” are already on the books that would make most abortions illegal immediately once the Supreme Court overturns Roe.

Over the weekend, Republicans ramped up their efforts — Marco Rubio submitted legislation to block people traveling to another state to get an abortion. Rand Paul sent out a fundraising email calling for a total federal ban on abortion. Mitch McConnell hinted a federal abortion ban is “possible” if Republicans retake the majority.

As concerning as that is — it doesn’t come as a shock. This has been the goal of a decades-long campaign to eliminate abortion, and with it, the dignity, health, and economic security that this fundamental right gives millions of Americans.

We must act now. It’s why I strongly support abolishing the filibuster to pass legislation that codifies Roe v. Wade and guarantees federal protections for the right to an abortion. Now I’m asking you to add your voice, because this moment demands we get loud.
