I have been a fierce advocate for the expansion of the Child Tax Credit, which lifted an estimated 3.7 million children out of poverty at the end of last year.

But this January marked the first time in six months that 36 million families did not receive this crucial monthly payment after the Senate failed to act at the end of last year. So, we must act now to renew the expanded Child Tax Credit.

Renewing the Child Tax Credit is not only an investment in our children and families, it is also an investment in our economic future while helping to reduce the deficit over the long term.

In this increasingly competitive economy, we need all of our children to reach their full potential and their parents to be able to work and support their families – this starts with lifting our children and families out of poverty.
