Hi John, Hunger is an all too familiar feeling for one-year-old Ninangyali*. Like 95% of households in Afghanistan, his family didn’t have enough to eat. Then fighting approached their home, and they were forced to flee to a desert camp. Food was even more scarce here, and Ninangyali soon became malnourished and weak. By the time he received treatment from our sister organization, Save the Children, he was just days away from death. John, the threat of widespread famine is looming over millions of children worldwide. There’s still time to prevent this global hunger catastrophe, saving countless lives – but the window is closing fast. Congress is poised to vote on emergency funding to respond to the food crisis, so we must ensure this urgent message reaches them. Send a message: we must act now to save lives and livelihoods. 276 million people were experiencing acute hunger before conflict erupted in Ukraine – but now, disruptions in the wheat supply chain are driving food prices near all-time highs. If this war continues, 47 million more could experience food insecurity this year. Without urgent aid, some won’t even live to see the summer. 350,000 children in Somalia alone could die of starvation in a matter of months. Our nation can help them go from starving to survivor. Urge Congress to provide emergency funding to help lead the global community out of this deadly food crisis. Thank you for being a voice for kids, |
