We are witnessing the results of the Republican Party’s right-wing, decades-long campaign to overturn Roe v. Wade and put anti-choice justices on the Supreme Court. But they won’t stop after overturning Roe .

Some Republican state legislatures are looking to criminalize people traveling across state lines to get an abortion. This weekend, Rand Paul sent out a fundraising email calling for a total federal ban on abortion. Mitch McConnell also said a federal abortion ban is “possible” if Republicans retake the majority.

I’m not surprised, but as the only Senator to have worked at Planned Parenthood, I’m insulted.

So I sat down with People Magazine and shared how out of step Republicans are on this issue with the majority of us. I’m determined to keep this at the forefront of the Senate’s priorities, and will keep asking for this grassroots team’s help supporting pro-choice candidates up and down the ballot.

Contrary to what Republicans think, people are more than capable of making their own healthcare decisions. When I was at Planned Parenthood, I met many women who made their choice, with dignity and clarity, to get an abortion. They made a deeply personal decision about what was needed to take care of themselves and their family, and I will always defend that decision.
