Build the Socialist Feminist Resistance!

Seattle Democratic Socialist of America

Please register  for the general membership meeting tonight, Tuesday, May 10 at 7pm.

Last week we
rescheduled our recent general membership meeting on priority campaigns to take part in nationwide protests against Roe vs Wade being overturned.  (
Check out the livestream from the Tuesday Night protest attended by 2000+ people for inspiring speeches by our endorsed socialist candidate for congress Stephanie Gallardo, socialist city councilmember Kshama Sawant, Seattle DSA Labor Working Group Co-Chair Sunny R, and others.)

We have an exciting meeting planned for tonight! We’ll be discussing how socialists can respond to the assault on abortion rights and our proposed priority campaigns for 2022, which includes the Stephanie Gallardo campaign, the Whole Washington healthcare Ballot Initiative, the House our Neighbors social housing Ballot Initiative, and Labor + Starbucks Solidarity. (See agenda here: https://tinyurl.com/MayGeneralAgenda)

Special Elections

In the first month of the new Local Council (LC) term, two newly elected officers decided to step away from their positions, leaving two vacancies.

While the LC is able to appoint members to these positions, in the interest of democratic input from the chapter, the LC has decided to have a special election for these two positions at the June 7 General Membership Meeting.

To learn more or to throw your hat in the ring for one of these two positions,CLICK HERE. The period to submit your candidacy ends Sunday, May 22 at 11:59pm.

All out for May 14!

The Supreme Court leak makes it absolutely clear that the ultra-right majority on the Court is planning to overturn Roe v. Wade. This is a massive attack against pregnant people and the right of women, and those who identify as women, to control their own bodies, won through mass feminist movements 50 years ago.

Planned Parenthood, the Women’s March and others have called for National Day of Action this Saturday, May 14.  In Seattle, the rally will be held at 11am at Cal Anderson Park.  On Friday May 13 there will be student walkouts and a rally (keep an eye out for more info on this!). The Saturday rally will likely be massive, with potentially tens of thousands turning out.  It’s important that we, as Seattle DSA, be there visibly, in mass, to stand against this Right wing assault and to build the socialist feminist wing of the movement by popularizing socialist feminist demands, which includes calling for a million person march on the Supreme Court in June:

  • Defend Roe v. Wade
    • Pass the Women´s Health Protection Act in Congress & end the filibuster
    • Expand the Supreme Court
  • Medicare for All, including:
    • Legal, safe, and free abortions
    • Free birth control & other reproductive services
    • Free gender-affirming healthcare
  • Free and universal childcare & paid family leave
  • Living wages & affordable housing

Seattle DSA will have a table, picket signs, and buttons. To find us, keep an eye out for our new banner and join us at the table to help build the socialist feminist resistance!

This rally will be an excellent opportunity to gather signatures for our various priority campaigns: House Our Neighbors social housing ballot initiative, Whole Washington, and Starbucks Workers Solidarity.  It’ll also be an excellent opportunity to talk with people about our socialist feminist demands and to recruit to DSA.

See you tonight! And don’t forget to register!
