Hi John,

Just minutes ago, we sued the Environmental Protection Agency to save manatees and their Indian River Lagoon home.

Manatee habitat is so polluted, these gentle sea creatures are starving to death at record rates.

This ecocide must be stopped — now.

Please help with an urgent gift to the Center's Saving Life on Earth Fund. All donations will be doubled.

More than half of the record 1,100 Florida manatee deaths last year occurred in the Indian River Lagoon, a prime year-round habitat on the Atlantic Coast.

Hundreds died of starvation there due to loss of seagrass — and the die-off of manatees has continued this year, at a tragic pace.

In December we asked the EPA to meet with the Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service to reassess Florida's water-quality standards. It's clear that manatees are in crisis and urgently need help.

Today, with our allies, we sued under the Endangered Species Act to make that happen.

For too long the EPA has let Florida's weak criteria for water pollution stand, even though they're clearly hurting the animals.

Nearly 20% of the Atlantic population of Florida manatees died in a single year. And hundreds more have died in 2022.

The Center has fought for years to protect manatees, including by filing lawsuits to secure their Endangered Species Act protection and to save them from harmful algal blooms.

Saving manatees starts by giving them a home free of pollution, with enough food to eat.

We'll keep going to court and doing whatever it takes to save manatees. We won't abandon them, and we know you won't either.

Please make a matched gift today to the Saving Life on Earth Fund and help us save manatees.
