Win for the German Greens
|
Last weekend, voters in the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein went to the polls. A big congratulations to the German Greens of Schleswig-Holstein, who got their best results ever!
The election is a boost for the German Greens in government. "This is a clear vote for the Greens in the government, and a strong voice for justice and a modern Schleswig-Holstein", states Ricarda Lang, co-leader of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen.
The elections coincided with Liberation Day, commemorating the victory over the Nazis. On this symbolic day, the far-right party Alternative für Deutschland did not reach the threshold and was kicked out of state parliament.

Greens commit to building resilient cities, towns and villages at the Greening from the Ground Up Conference
|
The COVID-19 pandemic clearly showed that municipalities are at the forefront of tackling crises. That's why we need resilient municipalities and regions to lead on the recovery and prepare for future shocks, while continuing to shape a sustainable future for all!
At the Greening from the Ground Up Conference on 7-8 May, mayors and local councillors got together to discuss how we can achieve this together. They touched on the topics of making space for youth and children, the role of digital technologies, climate-friendly solutions, prioritising openness and inclusivity, the future of mobility, and ensuring safety and wellbeing for all. We are proud to have more than 16,000 Green local councillors – now connected through the Local Councillors Network – and 300 Green mayors working to provide well-being and a more just and sustainable future to citizens in municipalities and regions throughout Europe.

This month's film: My Favorite War
|
Between 26 May and 2 June, you can watch “My Favorite War” for free. My Favorite War is an animated documentary telling the personal story of its director, Ilze, about her growing up in the Cold-War USSR. It is an exciting coming-of-age story about finding one’s own identity, truth and loyalty. First, we meet Ilze as a little girl playing war on her granddad ́s farm, then she is faced with the horror of war threats at school. Ilze lives in a clash between the Soviet reality and propaganda denying what people are actually experiencing. Moreover, Ilze also finds out how opposite in their beliefs the
people whom she loves the most are. The film is about choices a girl has to make at a very young age, then getting wiser and finding courage to speak out.
