I know it's the time of year for sales, but prior to the Trump administration, I never thought there would be Cyber Deals on public lands.

But that's exactly what's happening in Utah, right now—the Bureau of Land Management is putting parcels of federal land on the doorsteps of Hovenweep and Bears Ears National Monuments up for lease for oil and gas drilling.


Against the protest of tribes, archaeologists, nearby communities, and conservation organizations, the heavy drilling on the high desert will damage the unique resources and values in the region—imperiling the dark night skies, degrading cultural sites, exacerbating air pollution, and restricting outdoor recreation that helps local economies.


We're working with local stakeholders to protect these sensitive landscapes within the greater Hovenweep Cultural Landscape, including Bears Ears. But we need your help right now.

The Four Corners region of Southeast Utah, which the BLM is scurrying to carve up and sell off to Trump's big oil and gas backers, is home to cliff paintings as old as 100 B.C., 150-year-old Ute petroglyphs, and other cultural gems. Stargazers flock to the region's famously expansive night skies.


Thanks to President Obama, the region's more than 10,000 archaeological sites were safe from drills and pumps—until the Trump Administration's “American Energy Dominance agenda” took root.


Last year saw unprecedented threats to dismantle some of the region's most valued places—but the administration continues to prioritize dirty fuels over cultural resources, environmental protection, and public health. Enough is enough.


It is up to us to support our partners and allies to protect sensitive cultural and ecological landscapes—because our shared power is stronger than standing alone.
