Apply or Nominate an Educator for the TT Award
There’s still time to submit an application for the biennial Teaching Tolerance Award for Excellence in Teaching. Applications are due December 8.

PD Café: Diversity Is More Than a Buzzword

It’s time to reclaim “diversity” as a vital practice, not a buzzword. We’re here to help you do it. In the second part of our PD Café series on the Social Justice Standards, we walk you through understanding and practicing diversity in schools so that students have the skills they need to make their schools and communities safe places for all.

Down the Hall: Reimagining Texts With Julia Torres

As a teacher librarian, Julia Torres collects and shares resources, develops and leads professional development for educators, collaborates with teachers, encourages student literacies and advocates for school libraries. Check Out What We’re Reading

“These mothers talked about their efforts to encourage their children to question authority, speak freely, and express opinions—all things they valued—only to then watch as their children were reprimanded or even criminalized for doing so at school.” — The Atlantic

“The spaces have gentle names: The reflection room. The cool-down room. The calming room. The quiet room. But shut inside them, in public schools across the state, children as young as 5 wail for their parents, scream in anger and beg to be let out.” — The Chicago Tribune

“Many students, especially low-income black and Hispanic children, are prevented from receiving the equal education that [Horace] Mann dreamed of. Some public high school students in New York are sharing their perspectives through open letters, spoken word and poetry.” — Movement Advancement Project
