John, did you see the news about political donations last year? If you didn’t, I’ve forwarded you one of the articles below.
The 2021 returns came out yesterday, and they show National raking in over $1 million in big dollar donations last year. Coupled with the $1.8 million they raised a couple of months ago, they’re amassing a large election war chest, funded by some of the richest people in New Zealand.
At Labour, big dollar fundraising has never been our main focus. As a people powered party, we prefer to ask lots of people for modest donations, whatever they can afford and are willing to give to a good cause. But the big dollar donations do add up, and they could give National a real campaigning edge next year.
