=============================

Dear John,

I’m proud to announce that the Partnership is one of the founding members of Athena—a powerful new coalition taking on Amazon to create a brighter future for all of us.

As you might have seen in today’s New York Times, Athena is a growing group of forty-plus organizations, representing people coast to coast and South to North, whose communities and livelihoods are affected by Amazon. These organizations are a powerful force of working people and small business owners, people of color and immigrants, customers, neighbors, activists, advocates, policy experts, and academics striving to make our democracy represent us all and create a more healthy, sustainable and inclusive economy.

We’re working together to stop Amazon's increasing stranglehold on our economy, democracy, people & planet. Join us at [link removed]!

When I spoke to the New York Times this week, I told them what I’m going to tell you now—we have everything we need to win this fight. This is a David and Goliath story. David took what he had and turned it into a winning strategy. We’re taking what we have — the voices of the members of our various organizations, our collective knowledge and experience and deep understanding of the economy around Big Tech, and the experience we’ve had with making this company shift its behavior — and trying to build a more humane economy.

We’re thrilled to be in this with so many cutting-edge and dynamic groups, and we’re very proud to stand beside our affiliates, Warehouse Worker Resource Center, ALIGN, WPUSA and LAANE, as we make our vision clear:

- Control over our lives, our communities, and our democracy should be in our hands.

- Everyone should be able to enjoy the benefits of digital technologies and online commerce without having to sacrifice our rights and liberties, health and planet, or hopes and dreams.

- Billionaire corporations like Amazon should not be able to rig the rules so only they can prosper.

- We all deserve an economy that puts people first, public officials who ensure that no corporation is above the law or too big to govern — and a democracy that finally represents all of us.

Amazon’s outsized power represents a critical opportunity to build a popular movement to rein in monopolies and ensure that the rules of our economy are set not by giant corporations, but by people, through a democratic government that can’t be bought off. Athena believes our democracy and economy should make our communities cleaner, healthier, freer and better connected.

This year has seen key victories against Amazon across the country — and with this powerful new coalition, there will be more.

Add your voice to the movement, John. Join Athena at [link removed].

I’m excited to move forward with you.

In unity,
Lauren Jacobs
