John,
Maine Republicans are officially coming after abortion access in Maine. On the first day of their convention, Republicans voted to adopt a platform against same-sex marriage, sex education, and abortion.
These hateful attacks on Mainers are nothing new for the GOP, but last week’s Roe news means they’re closer than ever to actually accomplishing an abortion ban. If Roe is overturned, Maine’s governor will be our last line of defense in the fight to protect choice.
Gov. Mills and fellow Democrats in the legislature are committed to making sure Maine’s abortion protections remain intact. But if the Supreme Court overturns Roe and Paul LePage takes power, rights we’ve taken for granted for generations could change overnight.
Now is the time to take action to protect reproductive rights in Maine, not dismantle them. It’s no longer a question of whether or not Maine Republicans will restrict reproductive freedom in Maine. The question is just how far they’ll go in their attempts to police the rights of Mainers.
Thank you,
Jacob
