Indivisibles,

There is always hope in the face of adversity; today is no different. Over the last seven days, we have watched our nation mobilize to remind Republicans that we will not go back. We won’t go back to their patriarchal, white nationalist vision of this country. There are more of us than there are of them, and we will not sit idly by and let them roll back our rights.

To catch up, last Monday, a draft opinion leaked confirming our worst fears -- the Republican Supreme Court plans to overturn Roe v. Wade

Justice Alito’s majority opinion goes lower than we thought he could go, calling Roe “egregiously wrong” when it was decided, and declaring that there is no fundamental right to an abortion because it is not explicitly written into the constitution nor “deeply rooted in this nation’s history and tradition.”

In attacking abortion and setting American policy back fifty years, the Republican Supreme Court is setting the table to undermine many fundamental rights that we hold dear -- from access to birth control, to gay marriage, to interracial marriage, to any private sexual relationship Republicans may deem immoral, and we all know they won’t stop there.

Senate Republicans have already said they plan to introduce a nationwide ban on abortion if they ever regain power, and now we know the conservative majority of the Supreme Court, installed by those same Senate Republicans, won’t stop them.

We will not let them succeed. Our bodies belong to ourselves, and this country belongs to the people. Today, and every day moving forward, we will work to ensure those basic truths are never again forgotten.

With that, here are your weekly to-dos:

 Your 4 weekly to-dos

  1. Click here to find your local “Bans off” event this Saturday, May 14 to protest the end of Roe v Wade.  Planned Parenthood Action Fund is organizing a mass collective of events across the country to protest the end of Roe v Wade. Join Indivisibles across the nation in rallying to support abortion rights this Saturday. More local events are being added every day. If you don’t see one yet, check back later in the week as the list is being regularly updated, and contact your local Indivisible Group to make sure one is being organized in your area.
  2. Click here to split a donation between Indivisible and Jessica Cisneros for Texas’ 28th district. Jessica Cisneros is currently in a run-off election against the last anti-choice “Democrat” in the House. Her opponent, Henry Cuellar, voted against the Women’s Health Protection Act and is a staunch anti-labor, anti-environment conservative who has sided with extremists like Mitch McConnell and Ted Cruz. Donate today to support Indivisible along with a pro-choice progressive endorsed by her local Indivisible group as well as Indivisible’s national political team. We have a chance to completely eliminate anti-choice “Democrats” from the House, let’s do everything in our power to make sure it happens.
  3. Click here to access a list of local abortion funds where you should donate. When Roe falls, 26 states are in line to criminalize abortion with 13 of those states already having laws on the books that impose that change immediately. The demand on local abortion funds will increase immediately with some Americans needing to travel hundreds of miles in order to make a personal medical decision. Let’s make sure these funds are set up to support any and everyone who needs an abortion.
  4. Sign up here to get involved in our Give No Ground program to ensure Democrats hold power in November. We need to make every conservative politician in this country pay for their complicity in this decision. That means doing everything in our power to elect more progressive Democrats in November. Roe may fall this summer, but our elected officials will still have the authority to make it federal law and to expand the court so that this transparently Republican farce can cause no more damage. We must elect enough progressive Democrats to do it. (To be clear -- we mean a real progressive trifecta, not one that depends on Joe Manchin).

 National Events

Sign up today for our Deep Canvassing Training on Tuesday, May 10 at 6pm ET/3pm PT or Wednesday, May 11 at 9pm ET/6pm PT. 75% of people say decisions on abortion should be left to the woman and her doctor, and 80% of the American public thinks abortion should be legal. Those numbers mean nothing if we don’t know how to convince people to vote. Sign up today for a 1.5 hour training on the foundations of deep canvassing and to practice the skills needed to move inconsistent or conflicted voters to action. The two days will have very similar content with Tuesday using examples of elections on the East Coast and Wednesday focusing on examples from the West Coast. Sign up today.

Register for Organizing Call: Fighting Big Money with People Power on Tuesday, May 10 at 7pm ET/4pm PT. Ever since Citizens United, corporate money has had an outsized influence on our elections. Outside groups are now pouring tens of millions of dollars into Democratic primaries to support corporate Democrats against progressive champions. Indivisible’s Leah Greenberg joins our movement partners at the Working Families Party to explain what you can do to fight back.

Register here for Movement Briefing: January 6 Select Committee Hearings Thursday, May 12 at 7pm ET/4pm PT. Trump and extremist factions engaged in a criminal conspiracy that incited the violent attack on our country on January 6. Here’s the good news: The House committee charged with investigating the January 6 attack is preparing for public hearings to expose the full scope anti-democratic forces in this country. Join our movement partners in a briefing to help us make sure these hearings break through the busy news cycle and reach the general public.
