Hello comrades!
As you may know, in 2012 Denver city council passed an urban camping ban criminalizing the existence of the unhoused, and over the decade since has used it to enact over 17,000 sweeps, brutally repressing our unhoused neighbors as they struggle to simply survive. The 10-year anniversary of this tragic initiative is coming up this Saturday, and the Housing Justice Committee is joining with Housekeys Action Network Denver and Mutual Aid Monday to enact a week of grievance and action reminding the city that we will not stand for this trampling of human rights.
Please join us this Saturday for a rally outside city hall at 10 am as we uplift the voices of the unhoused victims of the city's cruelty, leading to a march to end the ban at 1 pm. Bring a friend! And if you'd like to get involved in volunteering to make this event happen, please reach out to [email protected]. We specifically need drivers to help turnout unhoused residents so they can advocate for themselves.
Let's tell the city it's been 10 years too long for the criminalization of homelessness!
In solidarity 🌹
