Join me in praising God for all He has allowed us to do.
Dear John,
Thank you so much for joining us in prayer over this year’s Easter Hope Events! I’m thrilled to share that the Lord answered those requests in miraculous ways. We hosted an amazing 42 Hope Events
in prisons across the country celebrating the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ—more than we’ve ever hosted at Easter in our ministry’s history! We had more than 3,500 men and women in attendance, as well as more than 500 people who experienced livestream events where in-person events weren’t possible. Our field staff were overwhelmed with testimonies and prayer requests, celebrating at least 420 people who either committed or recommitted their lives to Christ—praise Jesus!
For the men and women we serve and for our dedicated volunteers, this month marked a lot of “firsts” for the ministry. It was our first Hope Event in New England, our first time back serving the women of Missouri, and the first event in North Carolina (featuring Miss USA 2020 Asya Branch). And it is God’s providence that we have been seeing newness and fresh life in our prison programming overall just as we returned to celebrate the risen Jesus together.
Our very first Hope Event in New England was held at Maine State Prison on April 14 and was a sweet time to connect one-on-one with the men there. Through songs and storytelling, Richard Andrew shared his own journey of incarceration and how Jesus transformed his life. Our Hope Event in Missouri blessed the more than 300 women who arrived full of expectation and excitement at Chillicothe Correctional Center. And on the same day, 257 women gathered at Whitworth Women’s Facility in Georgia to remember that Jesus is risen.
“You guys are like angels to us. You could be with your families but chose to be here. Thank you!” —Hope Event attendee
In Florida, New Mexico, Michigan, and Alabama we heard stories of breakthrough, experienced a sense of relief, and saw men and women praising the Lord with upstretched hands and the joy of Christ on their faces. Stories of immense favor from the Lord also came out of RJ Donovan Correctional in California, where our Easter event was held on the most notoriously violent yard in the unit. Some of the transgender population incarcerated here received prayer, and as the event went on, many men who were on the outskirts of the yard decided to come up close to the stage. Officers later shared that the yard was characterized by peace throughout the rest of the weekend after the event.
I wish I had space to share all of the testimonies of those impacted by your prayers and support but I trust you will join me in praising God for the ways in which He has drawn His children to Himself this week, and how He continues to open doors for us to share the hope of Jesus. Your prayers will continue to be answered as each of those who gave their lives to Christ grow in their faith and their love for our Savior Jesus Christ.
Risen with Him,
