My name is Ashleigh Strange and I’m a non-binary person whose health was decided on someone else’s whim. I’m a person with a uterus who experienced painful periods lasting more than 45 days at a time. My doctors fought with me because they were more worried about my ability to conceive than my ability to live a life without anemia and pain. I told my surgeon that I didn’t want to have children. I needed him to do what was necessary for my life. He ignored me. The first face I saw when I woke up from the procedure was his, assuring me that I would still be able to conceive. He then patted me on the shoulder and walked away. I have used my fists to wipe away tears and raise it in solidarity at rallies for abortion rights and for Medicare For All. Dwight Evans says he supports his constituents' right to choose but is ignoring us when we begged him to vote on Medicare for All, the platform he campaigned on.
