Dear John,
An eye-opening report by the Inspector General’s office at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) confirmed some key criticisms by the National Committee and other seniors’ advocates — namely, that Medicare Advantage (MA) plans, which are publicly run but privately financed, are denying legitimate claims and refusing to authorize reasonable medical procedures. And that's why I hope you'll support the National Committee's urgent fight to stop Medicare privatization by chipping in a gift today.
"Tens of millions of denials are issued each year for both authorization and reimbursements, and audits of the private insurers show evidence of ‘widespread and persistent problems related to inappropriate denials of services and payment,’ the investigators found.” – New York Times, 4/28/22
The National Committee has been sounding the alarm for many years about these private plans and the creeping effort to privatize traditional Medicare. Please make one urgent donation of $10 or $5 today to help the National Committee expose and stop the continued push to fully privatize Medicare which will sacrifice patients’ access to quality and affordable care for corporate profit.
Unfortunately, MA plans are growing in popularity among older Americans. This isn’t because MA plans are superior for patients. They are simply able to lure in patients with slick TV ads featuring celebrities and the promise of lower premiums or free extras like gym memberships. Many of these ads are deeply misleading and do not mention the limitations of MA plans (including restricted physician networks and claim denials) or that seniors have the option to enroll in traditional Medicare which provides a wider choice of medical providers than MA plans.
Please help us amplify your concerns about Medicare Advantage plans and stop the creeping momentum to privatize traditional Medicare by chipping in a gift in whatever amount you can safely afford today.
Sincerely,
|
