Politico:‘[W]hile both parties are preparing to fight on the House battlefield drawn for this year, they are also getting ready for the conflict over political lines to extend far beyond the normal redistricting period that follows each decennial Census — with the potential to change the House map significantly over the next decade. 'This is not a two-year redistricting cycle like usual,' said Adam Kincaid, the executive director of the National Republican Redistricting Trust. 'This is a decade-long redistricting cycle, and probably a four-year intensive redistricting cycle.'

That's the gist of it. Between ongoing litigation, maps that will need to be relitigated after the 2022 election, and Republican attempts to reelect gerrymandering politicians, stack state courts, and promote their extreme legal theories, nothing is over yet. As one redistricting expert says:

“No one should leave at intermission thinking that they know how the story is going to come out.”
