MICHIGAN COALITION FOR RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERS "Promoting safe use and ownership of firearms through education, litigation, and legislation." MONDAY E'NEWS All Eyes on the Supreme Court Last week a draft release of a United State Supreme Court decision was leaked in the abortion case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. It is only one of several high profile cases expected to be handed down soon by SCOTUS. The major case firearms case this year is New York State Rifle & Pistol Association Inc. v. Bruen. Second Amendment proponents hope the New York case will curtail stringent and discriminatory concealed pistol license issuing practices in the few remaining may-issue states. It also has the potential to go well beyond that, creating a new stricter standard for firearms laws across the country, expanding on the Heller decision, and extending the protection of our natural rights to self defense intended by the Founders through the Second Amendment. Typically major decisions come in the final week of the Court's term which occurs in late June and early July. Already this year, the United States Supreme Court has started releasing some opinions such as last week's decision in the First Amendment case regarding Boston's municipal flagpole.
