Message from the Barnet Wellbeing Service about GP Physical Health Checks
We at the Barnet Wellbeing Service are helping the Barnet GP Federation encourage people living with mental health conditions to have regular annual health checks provided by their GP.
NHS England recommends that individuals diagnosed with a mental health condition receive a physical health check at least once a year.
If you receive treatment for a mental health condition, your GP would like to invite you for a physical health check as you may be more at risk of developing physical illnesses.
The good news is that these conditions can be treated and managed if they are diagnosed early.
At your physical health check, your GP will:
1. Check your blood pressure.
2. Measure your height and weight.
3. Test your blood glucose for risk of diabetes.
4. Check your blood cholesterol level.
5. And ask you some questions about any smoking or alcohol habits.
Being in good physical health can also help to improve your mental wellbeing.
Take the first step in looking after your physical and mental health - contact your GP to book your health check today
