Record number of London Green councillors!

The declaration of the results in Croydon has just completed - ending with two Green wins.  We can therefore now set out our results across London and invite you to our next London meeting.

You will have seen that Labour increased their support in parts of London, taking control of Barnet, Wandsworth and Westminster, but also losing Tower Hamlets, Harrow and Croydon.

Against that background, we increased the number of Green Councillors in London to 18, and broke through onto three new councils - Newham, Tower Hamlets and Croydon.

Election Review and Social - Monday 16-May at 19.00

Join us at the London Canal Museum in Kings Cross for our first in-person meeting since February 2020!

We'll take an in-depth look at how we did across London, meet some of the new councillors, and then have a well-earned opportunity to relax and catch up with Green members and supporters from across London - we look forward to seeing you there.

Some amazing results in there:

  • Danny and Nate become the first non-Labour Councillors in Newham since 2006.
  • Victories for Zoe and Alastair bring Greens back onto Hackney Council once more.
  • Greens are now the opposition in Richmond, Islington and Newham.
  • Our four mayor candidates achieved 17% in Hackney, 16% in Lewisham, 11% in Newham and 6.5% in Croydon.

But there were also many agonising near misses:

  • In Lambeth, we were 51 short of re-electing Pete Elliott in Gipsy Hill.
  • In Greenwich, we were 68 short of getting our first Councillor.
  • In Haringey, we were 112 short of getting our first Councillor.
  • In Lewisham, we were 120 short of getting a Green back onto the Council.
  • In Islington, we were 124 short of getting a Green elected in a second ward.
  • And there were many more!

Unfortunately we also lost councillors in Camden, Enfield, Lambeth and Kingston.

Finally, thank you to all our councillors, candidates, members and supporters - your work and your support helps build the case for Green change in our Councils and communities.
