John,
Happy Mother’s Day!
Today, we celebrate the impact and influence of our mothers – biological or chosen, those with us and those who no longer are.
My own mother models a life that has inspired this Congressional run. She is compassionate, selfless, hardworking, and welcoming. She cares deeply about her community.
I could tell you many stories about her and her acts of service, but one that really encapsulates her essence is how she founded an organization that reimburses teachers for out-of-pocket expenses they incur when they see students in need.
Teachers are often best equipped to notice if a student needs new sneakers or snow pants or school supplies. And so often, teachers would spend their own money. My mother wanted to make sure students were getting what they needed, and she didn’t want our teachers to have to bear that burden.
Even though she no longer has her own kids in the school, she saw a need and sprang into action. I don’t even know if most people know that she oversees this organization. She wants it that way. She just wants to quietly help her community.
I am very grateful for all she’s taught me, and I am committed to continuing her service to our communities by representing us in Congress next year.
Please join me in celebrating mother's today!
Matt
