Governor DeSantis brought his oldest daughter Madison, and her stuffed manatee, with him when he signed a record $30 million in funding for efforts to protect Florida’s manatees. The new legislation includes:
Restoration of habitats
Rescue and recovery efforts
Expansion of acute care facilities
Restoration efforts for access to warm spring waters
In an announcement on Wednesday, Governor DeSantis reaffirmed his commitment to combatting red tide and investing in Florida’s beaches with nearly $14 million in funding to support red tide research and innovative mitigation technologies. From the Governor:
“We’re fortunate to be Floridians. You have a lot of people that work hard, they save to be able to come to Florida to have fun and to bring their families. We welcome that and we’re really happy that we have such beautiful beaches here. Particularly, I think, in this stretch, some of the best beaches in the world are right here in our own backyard.”

This week, Governor DeSantis signed legislation that will provide funding to aid Florida’s coastal and inland communities.
“Our $20 million investment will fund assessments important to strengthening Florida’s infrastructure to withstand the impacts of flooding and storm surge. My administration will keep up the momentum to support resilience efforts for communities across the state.”
