We need policies that lift up and support the moms who support their families.

When I first got to Washington in 2019, I was the only single mom of young kids in Congress.
My life is quite different than most of my colleagues. When I’m not meeting with constituents or prepping for a hearing, my time is spent doing normal mom things—deciding what the hell I’m going to make for dinner, sorting through never ending piles of laundry, and figuring out how I’ll pay for college for my oldest and child care for my youngest. I’m confident that being a mom makes me a better representative.
My longest days in Washington don’t compare to my busiest days as a mom. Being a parent is a tough job, and our government needs to support parents. Women in particular have been pushed out of the workforce during the pandemic, childcare is unaffordable for families, and family’s budgets are being squeezed by rising prices.
I’ll keep fighting for policies that address these issues to support moms and the families they support. Because any mom can tell you: talking the talk is one thing, but we need to implement real change to lift up parents and families.
