SPENDER WOODS
Spencer Woods of Shungnak qualified for the Olympic Trials in Greco-Roman wrestling
by winning the silver medal at 170 pounds at the Bill Farrell Memorial in New York
City. Woods, of Kotzebue Fame, is a former standout at the University of Maryland.
He won four matches by a combined 24-6 score and was top American in his weight.
Earlier this month Woods wona gold medal at the Malar Cupen in Sweden.
The winner is selected by a panel each Friday and announced Saturday at 11 a.m.
on the Sports Guys on CBS Sports Radio 590AM and 96.7FM. View past winners here.

Todd posts third double-double in five games for Southern Idaho [[link removed]]

Anchorage's Jordan Todd is putting in strong post work for the College of Southern
Idaho women's basketball team.
The 6-foot-1 freshman has posted three double-doubles in the last five games and
leads her team with 8.8 rebounds per game and a .683 field-goal percentage.
Todd, of ACS fame, ranks third with a scoring average of 11.8 points per game.
Her breakout performance of 16 points and 14 rebounds came last week against Southwestern
Oregon.

Senior Trevor Osborne of Anchorage matched his best offensive effort in Whitman
College's 94-78 win over Sul Ross State in Forest Grove, Oregon.
The 6-foot-2 guard tied his career high with 20 points and six 3-pointers.
Osborne, of Grace Christian High fame, is the school's all-time leading 3-point
shooter at .445 percent.
He also ranks No. 5 in career makes (171) and No. 6 in career attempts (384).
Over his sophomore and junior seasons he made a 3-pointer in 31 consecutive games.

Eagle River's Kelsey Griffin reached a major milestone in spectacular fashion.
The veteran 6-foot-2 forward scored 19 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and dished three
assists to lead the UC Capitals to an 84-66 win over the Perth Lynx in Australia.
Griffin, of Chugiak High fame, has now amassed 4,017 career points since turning
pro in 2010.

The 6-foot-8 rookie just missed his first double-double with 10 points to go with

McWhite are on the court for the Southeastern Community College women's basketball
team.
The shooting stars from The Last Frontier have accounted for 63% of the 3-pointers
(32/51), 46% of the free throws (48/105) and 42% of the total points (256/614) in
nine games with the Iowa school.

Bella Hanson of Eagle River and Tristen Tolan of Anchorage each delivered points
in the first period to power the No. 3-ranked Elmira College women's hockey team
to a 7-0 win over Utica College.
Hanson set up the first goal and Tolan scored the second to get the party started
for the Soaring Eagles, who improved to 4-1 this year.
This was the first time both Alaskans registered a point in the same game.

Anchorage's Clair DeGeorge set up the only goal of the game to help the Bemidji
State women's hockey team beat Minnesota State Mankato 1-0 on the road.
The junior forward assisted on Lydia Passolt's game-winning goal just 50 seconds
into the second period in the WCHA contest.
Bemidji State is 4-2 when DeGeorge registers a point.
The Alaskan ranks second on her team with seven points in 14 games on a goal and
six assists.
DeGeorge has posted 17-35-52 scoring totals in 87 career games.

men's basketball team stay undefeated in the California Community College Athletic
Association.
The 6-foot-4 sophomore pumped in 10 points in 12 minutes as Cypress carried a one-point
lead into halftime en route to a 59-57 win over Santa Barbara.

The NWAC volleyball all-stars were announced and three Alaskans made the cut, with
Anchorage's Violett Togagae and Paia Togagae being named to the South Region first
team and Danika Brown of Anchorage getting a spot on the second team in the North
Region.
Violett and Paia Togagae provided Rogue Community College with one of the most powerful
1-2 punches in league as the Ospreys shared the region title and earned a spot in
the NWAC Championships in their first year.

After an injury slowed down the start of his season in Portugal, Anchorage's Travante
Williams has been cleared for takeoff.
The Sporting Lisbon transfer went off in his fourth game with his new team as he
flirted with a triple-double to lead the way in a 90-78 win over Esgueira.
Williams, of Mt. Edgecumbe High fame, had 21 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and
three assists in 32 minutes. He just missed his career high of seven steals.

With six women on the mats, and three of them placing, Alaska wrestling was well
represented at the Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, Missouri.
Syndee Kimber of Sitka, Agatha Andrews of Akiak and Jolie Lucas of Fairbanks each
earned podium finishes to highlight the contingent of Alaskans at the college meet
that featured 34 teams.
McKendree University from Illinois, won the meet with 194 points. The Bearcats feature
three wrestlers from the 907 in Kimber, Lucas and McKenzie Cook of Homer.
