Team,
On this Mother’s Day, we celebrate the women in our life who provide for our families, raise the next generation, and lead our communities. I’m running for Congress because of the strong, hard working women in my life who came before me, including my mother, grandmother, and aunties.
My late grandmother Pilar with her children in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico
As a first-generation American, I grew up on both sides of the border and spent much of my time in my grandfather’s TV repair shop in the Chaveña Neighborhood of Ciudad Juarez, where all of his children, including my mother and aunties worked hard every day.

My mother is one of 10 children, and she was the first in our family to graduate from college, receiving a degree in accounting. She began working in the maquiladoras of Ciudad Juarez and worked her way up to have a successful career in finance in the United States, primarily working for American companies that did business with Mexico.
I watched her work hard every day to support our family, and she taught me the value of hard work, to respect all, and to help those in need.
My mother, Hortencia Bañuelos, myself, and my brother
I’ve spent my career dedicated to public service, working hard to improve the lives of others and conserve our public lands and traditions, inspired by these women who sacrificed so much and struggled to achieve the American dream.
I give thanks to all of the mothers and mother figures out there today who contribute so much to our lives and society. They deserve a representative in Congress who fights for their best interests — including reproductive rights and healthcare, affordable childcare, and equal pay for equal work — and with your support, I plan to be that leader come this time next year.
Thank you, and have a happy Mother’s Day!
