Happy Mother’s Day! I know that you've heard from me a lot recently about our race to defeat Sen. Grassley (R-IA) – but today I wanted to share a really special story about my mom. I hope you'll take a moment to read it.
So, back in 2019, when I had eight Democratic presidential candidates, five International Union presidents and hundreds of voters attending my first-ever Finkenauer Fish Fry event, there was a bit of pressure to say the least. We kept the day focused on infrastructure and jobs – and cupcakes.
We served walleye (Sen. Klobuchar was a big fan!) and of course, no Finkenauer event would be the same without mom’s famous cupcakes! You see, I've got a campaign secret weapon: a mom who would do anything for anyone, and who just happens to be the best cupcake maker in the entire world.

My mom, Deb, baked nearly 1,000 cupcakes for our guests – chocolate, pumpkin, red velvet, you name it. And when she ran out of space to store them in our freezer, she used my dad's pickup truck, the cold weather and some classic Iowan problem-solving to improvise a second freezer to fit them all. I know that wasn't an easy task, and I'm so, so thankful, as were the folks in attendance!
But trust me, 1,000 cupcakes are nothing compared to everything my mom and my family have done for me. I wouldn't be where I am today without them. They taught me the value of hard work and the power of a scrappy, passionate team. That's how I was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives when I was just 25 years old, and how at 29 I became the youngest woman to flip a U.S. House seat from red to blue – and it's how I'm going to defeat Sen. Chuck Grassley to become the youngest woman elected to the Senate.
Listen, the numbers are on our side: nearly two-thirds of likely voters here don't want to reelect Sen. Grassley. We can win but only with hardworking people like you who care about flipping this seat blue, fighting for working families and protecting our Senate majority. That's why today I'm asking you to make a contribution to my campaign of $5, or whatever you can spare, so that we have the resources to defeat Sen. Grassley, bring new leadership to Iowa and protect our Senate majority.

I know that we're going to win this thing – one dollar, or one cupcake, at a time. Thank you for standing with me.
— Abby
