# [#] Hi John, and Happy Mother’s Day!
Although Teacher Appreciation Week just ended, I’m continuing the celebration today — and every day — as I honor the woman who has taught me the most and shaped me into the committed public servant I am today.

My mom taught at Olney High School in Philadelphia for 26 years, and she dedicated her career to making a positive impact in our community. She taught her students to be inquisitive, and showed them the transformative power of a high quality education.
Today, as a proud alumnus of the University of Virginia & Temple Law School, my degrees have allowed me to serve in multiple capacities to advocate and better the lives of Philadelphians.
From serving as an Assistant District Attorney to a Deputy City Solicitor, I’ve worked to advocate for our community’s needs and secure much needed resources. And today, as a City Councilmember, I advocate every day to improve our public schools. This session, I have worked with my colleagues to secure funding to fix our school’s crumbling infrastructure and rid every school of asbestos.
My education has enabled so much opportunity in my life, and I am so beyond thankful for teachers just like my mom who have shaped me into the leader I am today.
Please take this opportunity to celebrate all of the teachers in your life who have uplifted and inspired you.
Thank you,
Derek Green
