Today is Mother’s Day, and like many of you, I spend the day thinking about the women in my life and everything they taught me.

I would not be where I am today without them, and many of the strong convictions I hold are because of them. One, in particular, is my strong belief that healthcare is a human right.

19 years ago, my mother passed away from breast cancer. My wife Maria has also bravely fought breast cancer. They were both lucky because they had health insurance. A lot of Americans can’t say the same.

My mother and wife’s experiences have helped define my stance on healthcare. Their story, and the story of millions of other Americans, are why I support Medicare for All.

I hope you all enjoy this day with your family. I am so grateful that my children are lucky enough to have an amazing mother like Maria.

Thank you for hearing me out, and happy Mother’s Day.
