Stomach aches in the morning before school. Headaches before tests. Throwing up before a soccer game. Children who frequently feel sick in anticipation of something they’re nervous about may need help to manage anxiety — in some cases they may not even know their worries are what’s making them feel bad.

This week on childmind.org ([link removed]) we explore the physical symptoms of anxiety in children and the most effective ways for parents to respond when kids say they can’t go because they’re too sick. We discuss how to validate what they feel (they’re not making it up!) but express confidence that they can handle it. And when to get professional help.
