We have some important updates from your local council.
Please RSVP, Help Drive Turnout for the rescheduled Tues 5/10 General Membership Meeting
In order to mobilize to join the socialist feminist fightback against the assault on reproductive rights by the supreme court, we recently rescheduled our General Membership Meeting from Tuesday May 3rd to Tuesday May 10th (RSVP). Check out the livestream from the Tuesday Night protest attended by 1000+ people for inspiring speeches by our endorsed socialist candidate for congress Stephanie Gallardo, socialist city councilmember Kshama Sawant, Seattle DSA Labor Working Group Co-Chair Sunny R, and others.
For this tuesday’s VOTING meeting, we have created a new RSVP link, so members will need to RSVP again to attend the new meeting and get a ballot.
The May 10th meeting will be packed. First, we’ll discuss how socialists can respond to the assault on abortion rights. Then we’ll discuss comrades' proposed priority campaigns for 2022, which include the Stephanie Gallardo campaign, the Whole Washington healthcare Ballot Initiative, the House our Neighbors social housing Ballot Initiative, and Labor + Starbucks Solidarity.
Since this meeting is extremely important, affects where we’ll direct our energy and what we put a large % of our dues towards, we are asking all members to help turnout other members to the May 10th meeting. For starters, please text 5 people you know and remind them to attend. Here is a sample text message you can send to your friends. Then, please send a slack message to Chris P or email [email protected] to get involved in systematic efforts to increase turnout. And make sure to RSVP for the rescheduled meeting here
Special Elections
In the first month of the new Local Council (LC) term, two newly elected officers have decided to step away from their positions, leaving two vacancies.
While the LC is able to appoint members to these positions, in the interest of democratic input from the chapter, the LC has decided to have a special election for these two positions at the June 7 General Membership Meeting.
To learn more or to throw your hat in the ring for one of these two positions, CLICK HERE. The period to submit your candidacy ends Sunday, May 22 at 11:59pm.
In solidarity,
Your Local Council
