Republicans talk a lot about family values. Republican voters take a leap of faith with trickle down scamanomics and blame abortion, LGBTQ equality and undocumented immigrants for the collapse of the family.

Democrats, I think rightly, say these things are not to blame and mostly want the federal government to allow people to do what they need to do for personal happiness, but you don't hear elected Democrats talk a lot about family values, which I think, include acceptance and equality and love regardless of all of those things.

Since the 1970's, and especially since the Ronald Reagan administration, our economy has become increasingly rigged to transfer money to the top and away from most families. Both the Democrats and Republicans have supported policies of austerity, which has put such a strain on people that they've had to get second jobs or sometimes third jobs, and both parents have had to work outside the home, where you used to have one parent who did work inside the home.

On top of that, since the Nixon administration, our police forces have been fighting a war on drugs, filling our prisons with people who committed non-violent offenses. We have prisons being run by corporations, who along with their investors, are making profit from the incarceration of others. This has led the United States to have more people in jail than any other country in the history of the world. And to make matters worse, our military is allowed to sell tanks, flame throwers, grenades and more to our police departments to enforce this madness.

It is my position that the rigging of our economy and the war on drugs have done more to destroy the traditional American family than any undocumented immigrant looking for a better life, any gay couple who has children or anyone who, for whatever reason, decides they can't carry their pregnancy to term. And that fixing our economy and ending the failed war on drugs will do more for American families than all of the cuts to social programs and all of the intolerant policy put together.

To do this, we've got to take on the political might of the very wealthy, and that means the entire establishment. But we can do it. We can fix our economy and we can end the war on drugs, and accomplish all of our other goals, which include improving our health care system and improving our education system. But we can't do it with the people who have held office for 20, 30 or even 40 years, the people who helped cause this mess in the first place.

I'm starting with my Congressperson, who in his 10 terms in office, has supported all of these policies from austerity to corporate prisons to police militarization to tax policy that favors the very wealthy and corporations. I'm asking for your help in our fight for justice. Can you pitch in a few dollars to help me take on my Congressional Representative? And together we can form a just, thriving and sustainable economy.
