Happy birthday to us!


** We're celebrating five amazing years

Today is our 5th birthday. I can hardly believe it. It feels like both five days and fifty years ago since day one. In between that first day and today is so much life, love, work, struggle, and history. The stories of over 8000 clients, over 800 volunteers, over 9000 donors, and of course our incredible, amazing, extraordinary staff all fit into these five years; as do countless trips to the DMV, hours and hours at shelters, food banks, and neighborhood corners, hundreds of remarkable partners.

As I sat at the DMV with a client yesterday, a quiet and sweet young woman who was sent to us by her parole officer to get the ID that would help her start over, I thought about the clients who text to tell us they got a job, or run to our table at a shelter to celebrate that they just got housing. I thought about the shocked and thrilled faces of clients when we present them with a birth certificate they thought was impossible to get, and the clients who see me on the street and yell HI MISS ID! It happens more often than you would think.

I will never be able to express my gratitude to the countless people whose help and support got us to five years. The first five years of a new organization, like a new business, are tough. Extremely, unbelievably, sometimes almost unbearably tough. And two of our first five were in a pandemic! And yet with the incredible love, support, wisdom, and courage of countless numbers of guardian angels, we are here and thriving and ready to take on the next five. So thank you, if you are reading this, because without
you we never would have made it this far.
