John,
In case you missed it last night, Amazon workers and supporters rallied at Amazon’s Staten Island warehouse to protest horrific working conditions. Over 600 workers signed petitions demanding some basic relief from their backbreaking 10-12 hour shifts. According to Amazon’s own data, workers at Amazon warehouses are 3 times more likely to suffer significant injuries than the national average for all warehouse workers.
We’ll be keeping the pressure on to hold Amazon accountable on Cyber Monday – one of Amazon’s biggest sales days of the year – as workers and community members march on Amazon to let Jeff Bezos know that we’re watching him and that this movement is growing.
RSVP here to join us in NYC on Monday, Dec 2nd at 12 pm
Communities around the country – workers and their families, immigrants and elected officials from Seattle to Virginia, Tennessee to Minneapolis, California to New York – are also speaking out against Amazon’s monopoly power and their abuses in our daily lives. Today, we launched the Athena Coalition, representing over 40 organizations from coast to coast whose communities and livelihoods are impacted by Amazon. Athena aims to break up the outsized power wielded by Amazon and other mammoth corporations that undermine our democracy and economy, and transform our communities to places where all people can thrive in just, sustainable communities and realize a shared vision for economic, racial, and climate justice.
Please join us in the streets on Cyber Monday as we continue to take the fight to Amazon!
In solidarity,
Daisy Chung
